My undergraduate capstone project was a high-fidelity, interactive prototype of a music community/social media mobile app called Elision. The first half of the semester was spent performing user research and conducting usability tests with early prototypes. I then used InVision Studio to design functional screens complete with animations and transitions. The final product is a high quality proof of concept backed up by evidence from my research and tests.
I conducted interviews to determine what potential users’ habits are in regard to music listening, as well as their methods of online interaction and how they use social networks to share and promote their interest in music. Furthermore, I identified and wrote a competitive analysis about three applications/websites that cater to Elision’s target audience - Last.fm, Spotify, and Amino. This background research helped to inform my paper prototype of the app.
I used the paper prototype to run usability tests and determine the strengths and weaknesses of the paper prototype. The feedback I received from participants gave me better insight into how users would feel interacting with the app and influenced the changes I made when creating on the digital screens.
